飴色や黄色や白の釉薬の模様が美しい小鹿田焼。

伝統的な小鹿田焼の技法を使った作品が多い中で、クリエイティブな試みをしている作品は珍しいです。美しい釉薬の色彩、即興で生まれた模様も面白いです。バーナードリーチを思わせる雰囲気をまとっている素敵なうつわです。

小鹿田焼は、桃山時代（16 世紀末）に渡来した朝鮮人陶工によって伝えられ、小石原窯（現福岡県朝倉郡東峰村）を経て、現在の大分県日田市大字鶴河内字皿山に伝えられたものと言われています。開窯から300有余年、当時からの技法を受け継ぎ窯を守ってきています。小鹿田焼の里では、現在９軒の窯元が家族労働のみで作陶を行い、江戸時代から変わらぬ伝統的技法と伝統を守り続けています。小鹿田焼は、平成７（1995）年に国の重要無形文化財に指定されました。

This Onta ware features beautiful amber, yellow, and white glaze patterns.

While many pieces use traditional Onta ware techniques, it is rare to see such creative attempts. The beautiful glaze colors and improvised patterns are intriguing. This is a lovely piece with an atmosphere reminiscent of Bernard Leach.

Onta ware was introduced by Korean potters who came to Japan during the Momoyama period (late 16th century), and is said to have passed on from Koishiwara Kiln (present-day Toho Village, Asakura County, Fukuoka Prefecture) to what is now Sarayama, Tsurukawachi, Hita City, Oita Prefecture. Over 300 years after its opening, the techniques from that time have been passed down and the kiln has been preserved. In the village of Onta ware, nine potteries currently produce pottery using only family labor, preserving the traditional techniques and traditions that have remained unchanged since the Edo period. Onta ware was designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan in 1995.
